This year group of Medical Herbalists who are primary health care providers in herbal medicine climaxed their Professional training and licensure exams at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital Yesterday. The exam is conducted by the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Council.

The training of Medical Herbalist consists of four year training at the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology and two years of training in addition with which one of them takes place at the Centre for Plant Medicine Research and Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

A total of 19 Medical Herbalists enrolled for their final year training at the Centre for Plant Medicine Research and Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Akwapim Mampong this year. Six months were spent at the Centre for plant medicine research and five months spent at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

At the end of successful training, a Professional qualifying exam is conducted by the Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Council consisting of both theory and practicals.

The theory took place on Tuesday 23 November at the Holy Spirit Cathedral whiles the practical ended yesterday at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

The Team from the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Council present spoke to the incoming Medical Herbalists at the end of the exams concerning the future prospects of the Profession and the date their results and license will be released.

“An induction ceremony will be held next year March” according to the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Council representatives.
