The Centre for Plant Medicine Research has launched two new products as it celebrates its 45th anniversary under the theme “Health Promotion and Wealth Creation: the Role of Plant Medicine Research in Ghana.”

The two products seek to boost the immune system of persons from the ages of 12 years and above.

The Executive Director for the center Dr Kofi Babi Borimah, in delivering his address elaborated the benefits of herbal medicine in the country and how the research centre is ready to put in much effort for any medicine to be properly researched to make sure it is wholesome.

“Immunim and Ampoforte , the two new products will serve as immune system booster so that bacteria and others sickness will lose strength or even can’t stay in the system when they attack you.

“I am happy citizens in this country have accepted and now use herbal medicine or products to treatment of several sicknesses,” he stated.

Dr Kofi Babi Borimah added that “The Centre’s OPD used to record 70-80 patients daily but now records 100-150 or more each day during the early days of the COVID-19 which tells us that most Ghanaians believe in Herbel medicine and its about time we make sure Herbel medicine will be a natural choice for all.”

The Chief of Akuapem Mampong, Osaabarima Kwame Otto Dartey III pleaded with government to strengthen the center.

He urges government to establish branches in other regions of the country “so that each and every Ghanaian can be made to accept herbs for treatment when they fall sick. Again the founder of this center late Dr Oku Ampofo idea was to bring out over thousand herbal medicines so that it will help the individuals in Mampong and Ghana as a whole.”

He added that the Centre launched an endowment fund to help it construct a state of the art research facilities across the country specifically in Eastern, Western, Ashanti, Bono East and savanna regions “so that the facility will strongly support and promote research and products development in the field of communicable infections, emerging and re-emerging diseases and non-communicable disease like cancer, diabetes and as well as promotion of research and training within Ghana and beyond.”
