
In a significant milestone for the natural health and wellness profession in Africa, Prof. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu, ESQ, PhD, has been appointed to the prestigious Advisory Board of the American Association of Natural Wellness Practitioners (AANWP) and the American Natural Wellness Practitioners Board (ANWPB).
This appointment, officially announced by AANWP/ANWPB, recognizes Prof. Obu’s unmatched expertise in naturopathy, law, and healthcare policy, and his trailblazing contributions to the advancement of traditional and complementary medicine across the African continent. Prof. Obu holds the historic distinction of being the first naturopath in Africa to be called to the Bar, in The Gambia—a pioneering achievement that underscores his commitment to professionalizing the field of natural medicine within structured legal and educational systems.
As an Advisory Board member, Prof. Obu will play a pivotal role in:
- Providing strategic guidance to AANWP/ANWPB,
- Contributing to policy development,
- Supporting initiatives that promote excellence and professional standards in natural wellness practice.
In addition, he will be instrumental in preparing graduates of naturopathic programs in Ghana and across Africa to sit for the ANWPB Naturopathic Exam—a critical step in elevating the practice of naturopathy to globally recognized standards.
