Centre for Plant Medicine Research Unveils Landmark Plans for 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) has officially launched the countdown to its historic 50th-anniversary celebration, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s scientific and traditional medicine landscape.

Under the theme “HEALTH AND WEALTH POWER OF PLANTS: FIVE DECADES OF INNOVATION IN PLANT MEDICINE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT,” the year-long golden jubilee will feature a series of flagship events designed to reflect on a legacy of innovation and chart a course for the future.

A key highlight of the announcement is a critical symposium asking: “Has Ghana Done Enough For Traditional Medicine Development?” This panel discussion promises to spark national conversation on policy, investment, and the integration of plant-based medicine into the mainstream health sector.

The anniversary will also honor the monumental legacy of its founding father, Dr. Edward Oku Ampofo, the first medical doctor to champion scientific research into Ghana’s rich repository of traditional plant medicine.
