KNUST: Department of Herbal Medicine To Hold Its First Ever Educational Conference

The Ghana Herbal Medicine Students Association, KNUST will hold its first-ever educational conference dubbed: ā€œTell Your Storyā€ On Thursday at the faculty lecture hall.

The conference is expected to be attended by the whole department student body (GHEMSA), and dignitaries from the industry including the President and General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Medical Herbalists as well as other stakeholders.

This is one of the first-ever educational forums being held at the Department of Herbal Medicine organized by the President of the Ghana Herbal Medicine Students’ Association, GHEMSA.

A statement issued from the office of the President of the student body indicates that the  program seeks to provide a platform to generally shape the mindset of students in developing a career through guidelines, schemes, and tips from the field practitioners and also inform the student body on the need to appreciate the program of study

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST is the only educational institution in West Africa offering a degree program in Herbal medicine.

This four-year training coupled with two years internship training program at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital and Centre for Plant Medicine Research ushers into the Healthcare field, Medical Herbalists who use plants to treat and prevent diseases.

These Medical Herbalists’ services are rendered at some Government Hospitals and other registered private Herbal facilities.

The potential of the industry is a brighter one and this program offers a great leap into actualizing this fortune in terms of economic return and universal health coverage.

Currently, there are over 400 students who are expected to turn up for the conference. At the end of the day, we hope the conference will instill great discipline, Professionalism, and guide them toward a career path.
