Kwahu West records first Mpox case

The Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region has recorded its first confirmed case of Mpox, heightening concern among residents.

Municipal Health Director Celestine Asante, however, assured the public that the situation is fully under control, with robust measures in place to curb any potential spread.

“We understand the concern and fear this news may bring, but we are fully prepared to handle the situation,” she stated. “Our team is working diligently to trace contacts, and with the public’s cooperation, we are confident we can contain this outbreak.”

She urged residents to strictly limit close contact during this period, warning against kissing, sharing personal belongings, or sleeping on another person’s bed or pillow. Such precautions, she noted, are essential to reducing transmission risk.

Ms. Asante also highlighted the need for consistent hygiene practices, particularly thorough handwashing with soap under running water after using the bathroom and before eating.

She called on the public to remain alert, report any suspected symptoms immediately, and support health officials in their containment efforts.
