Overuse of these drugs can lead to Peptic Ulcer Disease

Mr Samuel Odoom who happens to be a Medical Herbalist Intern at Centre for Plant Medicine Research made known the fact that overuse of certain medications by patients may trigger the onset of painful peptic ulcer disease.

He made this statement in an interview at o2 radio, Accra on a health talk show on peptic ulcer disease.

He explained that drugs like NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs) as ibuprofen and diclofenac must be taken with guidance from a professional. He cautioned against the overuse of these medications as they may implicate ulcer disease.

According to him, “these drugs inhibit useful prostaglandins which coats the stomach lining. Overuse of these NSAIDS will eventually deplete the production of these useful coating lining leading to ulcers”.
