Ms. Fati Alora, a local soap producer, has called on Ghanaians to patronise locally made ‘Alata Samina’ also known as African Black soap as it has special benefits for their skin tone.
Ms Alora speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview said the local raw materials used to produce alata samina had various properties to improve their skin.
She explained that Alata Samina was made from a mixture of cocoa pods ash or plantain leaves ash, water, and palm kernel oil which had been proven to be good for the skin.”
Taking GNA through the soap making process, she said that the first step was to boil the fresh palm kernel oil on high heat, after which a mixture is made of either cocoa pod or plantain leaves ash and water, and added to the oil on fire.
The mixture is then stirred until it is cooked after which more of the mixture is added periodically, stirring continuously until it becomes sticky.
The sticky mixture is then allowed to cool and then molded into round balls or poured into branded containers, ready for the market.
Ms. Alora noted that the soap was loved by many people to help improve skin tone, reduce acne, and soothe skin irritations, adding that it is also effective for the removal of dead skin cells, leaving the skin feeling smooth and refreshed.
She emphasised that ‘Alata Samina’ is suitable for all skin types and is gentle enough for everyday use.
