Science and technology have undoubtedly contributed to the health and general wellbeing of the human race or creatures in general. However, there are other sensitive issues about health that scientists are putting much effort to explore. An example includes male contraception.
Generally, male contraception has been abstinence (which is less feasible), condoms (which is less reliable), withdrawal method (which isn’t that effective), and vasectomy; which poses some fear in men because of its a surgical procedure.
Most drugs available as contraceptives to control birth are mostly female contraceptives. Male contraceptive drugs are rare and just a few are undergoing trials; with RISUG/VasalGel completing a small phase II clinical trial in humans in India. Another drug undergoing studies is Dimethandrolone undecanoate (DMAU).
Nevertheless, the Cotton plant (Gossypium arboreum), was reported to exhibit contraceptive effects in men. According to the research, the promising compound that induced this effect was Gossypol. (Coutinho, E. M 2002).
This information may be an eye-opener for Herbal companies to research more, come up with a male contraceptive drug that is 100% herbal, safe, and very effective.
