It was an interesting session with the founder of Nyarkotey College of Holistic Medicine who is a Student Lawyer and prolific writer in most newspapers in Accra, Ghana like the Ghanaian Times, Professor Raphael Obu Nyarkotey
In a discussion with the Professor on the complementary and Alternative Medicine Industry, the professor happened to debunk the theory that herbal medicine and alternative practitioners are quack
He explained, there is quackery in every field. There are quack pastors, Pharmacist, journalist and even medical Doctors and that Quackly must not be associated only with the holistic pratitioners. Even the court has defined what quackery is. That is when you practice or move into in a system you don’t have a knowledge and license about that system of practice and this applies to every field of work
In his speech, he stated there are some quack doctors who sell natural products without any accreditation or license in that field of practice all in the name of network marketing.
He added, the regulatory body in charge of complementary and alternative practice hasn’t been robust enough to champion the affairs of traditional and alternative medicine in the country
He therefore advised people to desist from associating quackery to only the herbal and alternative medicine industry
