The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) of the Ministry of Health will hold the 7th Medical Herbalist Induction Ceremony on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the British Council Auditorium in Accra.
The event, scheduled to begin at 8:00 am, is themed “Advancing Primary Healthcare Through Research-Driven Herbal Medicine Integration.”
According to a statement from the council, the induction ceremony will formally admit a new cohort of trained medical herbalists into professional practice. The ceremony also serves as a platform to reinforce the role of traditional medicine within Ghana’s primary healthcare system.
Speaking ahead of the event, officials from the TMPC noted that the theme underscores a growing push toward evidence-based herbal medicine. They emphasized that integrating research-backed plant-based treatments into mainstream care could help reduce pressure on conventional health facilities, especially in rural and underserved areas.
The British Council Auditorium, located in Accra, is expected to host government health officials, representatives from allied health professions, academic researchers, and family members of the inductees.
This year’s induction comes at a time when Ghana’s Ministry of Health is increasingly exploring partnerships between traditional and conventional medicine practitioners. Proponents say such integration, when properly regulated and research-driven, offers a practical pathway to achieving universal primary healthcare coverage.
The Traditional Medicine Practice Council, established under the Ministry of Health, is responsible for regulating the practice of traditional and herbal medicine in Ghana, including the certification and licensing of medical herbalists.
More details about the event are expected to be released by the council in the coming days.
