
Dr Malcolm Mambuoraa Dery, a Medical Doctor at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has advised the public to avoid lifestyle diseases, which are primarily based on daily habits.
He advised the citizenry to control their daily habits and lifestyles to prevent multiple medical issues such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, mellitus, stroke, heart related diseases and certain forms of cancers.
Dr Dery, who is also a Neurosurgeon at TTH, was speaking during an awareness creation on health at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Tamale.
The event was to educate the church and community members on the importance of preventing lifestyle diseases.
Dr Dery advised the citizenry to exercise daily in the form of walking and jogging as well as reduce sitting for long periods of time to maintain body weight and prevent obesity, reduce cholesterol and improve physical and mental strength.
He urged members of the public to avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption, eat low content carbohydrate foods, take in high protein, less oil, more green leafy vegetables and fruits.
He urged the citizenry to avoid junk food and cold drinks, avoid too much salt or sugar in their foods, and drink more water.
He advised the congregation to regularly check their health status for early diagnosis of likely diseases to contain them on time.
