CPMR 2026 Seminar on Capparis Propagation and Cryptococcus Resistance

Researchers, laboratory technologists, National Service personnel, and all stakeholders are invited to a pivotal academic seminar hosted by the Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR). On February 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM, the CPMR Conference Room will be the stage for two significant research presentations bridging plant biotechnology and public health mycology—each addressing pressing challenges in sustainable cultivation and infectious disease management.

The seminar will spotlight innovative scientific approaches to scaling the production of Capparis erythrocarpos, a medicinally valuable but often under-cultivated plant species, and will delve into a critical comparative analysis of Cryptococcus neoformans, a life-threatening fungal pathogen, across clinical and environmental samples in Ghana.

Research Presentations

  1. “In Vitro Propagation of Capparis erythrocarpos for Large-Scale Cultivation”
Presented by Fluoro Metal Rkshop and Seyiram Kumorzie, this study focuses on advanced micropropagation techniques to overcome traditional cultivation barriers for Capparis erythrocarpos—a plant recognized for its phytochemical richness and potential in herbal pharmacopeia. The research promises to enhance sustainable availability for both commercial and conservation purposes.
  2. “Characterization and Antifungal Susceptibility of Cryptococcus neoformans from Clinical and Environmental Sources in Ghana: A Comparative Study”
Led by Mark Appenteng, this presentation examines the biological behavior and drug resistance profiles of C. neoformans, a major cause of fungal meningitis. By comparing isolates from hospitals and environmental reservoirs, the study aims to inform targeted treatment protocols and surveillance strategies in subtropical climates.

Moderation & Leadership

The session will be moderated by Prof. Alex Asase, Executive Director of the CPMR, who will facilitate dialogue between presenters and attendees, fostering an environment of academic exchange and practical application.
