‘It may taste sweet, but your lungs can’t taste the difference’ — FDA cautions public on shisha and vaping

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public against the use of shisha and vaping products, stressing that flavoured tobacco products are not safer alternatives to smoking.

In a public notice, the Authority warned that fruit, mint, and candy flavours do not reduce the harmful effects of tobacco on the lungs.

“It may taste sweet, but your lungs can’t taste the difference. Fruit flavour. Mint flavour. Candy flavour. It doesn’t cancel out the harm,” the FDA stated.

The Authority emphasised that protecting children and young people from exposure to tobacco and nicotine products remains a major public health priority.

According to the FDA, public cooperation and timely reporting of tobacco-related activities are critical to supporting enforcement and regulatory efforts.

The Authority urged members of the public to provide specific information, including locations, to assist investigations and enforcement actions against illegal or harmful tobacco activities.

The FDA further reiterated that shisha and vaping products should not be regarded as safe substitutes for smoking.
