Former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has urged men aged 30 and above to undergo regular medical check-ups to safeguard their health.
Dr Okoe Boye advised that men should consistently check their blood pressure and monitor their blood sugar levels, recommending that the sugar tests be done at two different hospitals for accurate confirmation.
He said this in a video posted on X, stressing that early detection of health issues can save lives.
Dr Okoe Boye outlined a list of essential medical tests every man above 30 should consider.
These include the Cardiac Enzymes test, Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test, Kidney Function test, Lipid Profile (covering both good and bad cholesterol), and the Liver Function test.
“The liver is the Zoomlion of the body. It plays a vital role in detoxifying and maintaining internal balance”, he stated.
He also highlighted the importance of checking the Body Mass Index (BMI) to ensure a healthy weight.
According to Dr Okoe Boye, the cultural setting in Ghana places enormous responsibilities on men, which increases their stress levels and health risks.
He noted that these regular tests could help reduce the burden of chronic illnesses and sudden health emergencies.
Dr Okoe Boye emphasised that these screenings should be done at least once every year and encouraged men not to wait until they feel unwell before seeking medical advice.
