Not just a pretty flower, hibiscus is also a very good remedy for your hair troubles. Here, Dr Blossom Kochhar shares how you can make use of it for your hair.
We’ve all come across hibiscus flowers and admired how beautiful they are. Aesthetically, they add a vibrance to the space they occupy but very few know that hibiscus also has qualities to help you keep your tresses healthy. Yes, ladies, hibiscus can put a stop to your hair loss and contribute to hair growth.
“Hibiscus strengthens your hair which helps in hair growth while reducing hair loss. It’s also a good remedy for dry and itchy scalp. Moreover, it is an effective remedy for dandruff and dry hair. On the whole, it gives your hair a good shine and bounce,” says Dr Blossom Kochhar, founder of Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic.
Several studies also note that the flower has a positive impact on hair follicles which could contribute to hair growth. But how can you make use of this flower for your hair without relying on store-bought products?
Well, DIY masks never disappoint right? If you don’t have a hibiscus plant around or don’t want to use one, then you can always make use of hibiscus power easily-available online.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s learn how you can make use of this wonderful flower to get shiny, long, and hydrated hair:
1. For dry hair and scalp
If your scalp feels dry and hair is frizzy, then his mask will naturally condition your tresses and give them some much-needed hydration.
In half a cup of water, boil two hibiscus flowers for 5 minutes. Cool this mixture and add a tablespoon of coconut oil, yoghurt, and 2 drops of lavender essential oil. Apply on your hair and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash it off with a gentle shampoo.
2. For dandruff
We’ve all been troubled by dandruff at some point in our lives. It leaves our scalp feeling itchy and irritated while also causing social embarrassment, thanks to the flakes. Hibiscus can help with that as well.
Grind a couple of hibiscus flowers along with a few hibiscus leaves to make a paste. To this, add aloe vera and one tablespoon of yoghurt. Mix it well and leave it for 20 minutes before washing your hair with a gentle shampoo.
3. To curb hair fall
Perhaps the most heartbreaking hair issue that possibly could exist is hair fall and loss. But thankfully, hibiscus can even come to your rescue here.
Take 25 hibiscus leaves and grind them into a paste. Add the paste of one onion along with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, 2 drops of rosemary essential oil and 1 drop of lavender oil. Apply this mix to the scalp and leave it on for an hour before washing it off.
So, ladies, do give hibiscus a shot to treat your hair woes and do let us know in the comments below how these remedies worked for you.
