7th Medical Herbalist Induction Ceremony Takes Place Tomorrow in Accra

The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) of Ghana’s Ministry of Health will tomorrow, Thursday, June 11, 2026, induct a new cohort of trained medical herbalists into professional practice.

The 7th Medical Herbalist Induction Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am at the British Council Auditorium in Accra.

Theme Focuses on Research-Driven Integration

This year’s ceremony is themed:
“Advancing Primary Healthcare Through Research-Driven Herbal Medicine Integration.”

According to a statement from the council, the theme underscores a growing official push toward evidence-based herbal medicine. Officials believe that integrating research-backed plant-based treatments into mainstream care could help reduce pressure on conventional health facilities, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Platform for Traditional Medicine’s Role in Primary Healthcare

The induction ceremony will formally admit the new professionals while also serving as a platform to reinforce the role of traditional medicine within Ghana’s primary healthcare system.

The event comes at a time when Ghana’s Ministry of Health is increasingly exploring partnerships between traditional and conventional medicine practitioners. Proponents say such integration, when properly regulated and research-driven, offers a practical pathway to achieving universal primary healthcare coverage.

Expected Attendees

The British Council Auditorium is expected to host:

  • Government health officials
  • Representatives from allied health professions
  • Academic researchers
  • Family members of the inductees
