Cabbage palm is a small to medium-sized tree usually growing up to 18 metres tall but with occasional specimens to 30 metres. The bole can be free of branches for up to 15 metres, and 50 – 90cm in diameter. Cabbage palm is widely used in traditional medicine throughout its distribution area as a strong purgative and diuretic. The bark has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
