The authors of the book are Mr. Clifford Asare and Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah. Mr. Clifford Asare is a long serving Technician at the Department of Herbal Medicine KNUST. He has years of experience in herbal medicine practice and has been instrumental in the field training of Herbal Medical Students. Mr Asare has contributed to numerous research work in plant medicine within Ghana and beyond.
Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah, a co-author is a Herbal Medicine Intern (Centre for Plant Medicine Research-Akuapem-Mampong), Researcher, International Writer, Freelance journalist and a columnist on major Ghanaian news portals. As a former outreach coordinator for the Ghana Herbal Medical Students Association, Mr. Debrah has been passionate in promoting Traditional Ghanaian medicine and is a staunch advocator for collaboration between orthodox medical practitioners and traditional healers for patient’s wellbeing. Mr. Debrah is currently the public relation officer for Medical Herbalist Interns and National Service Personnel Associations (MHINSPA).

Phyllanthus consists of the fresh or dried leafy tops of Phylanthus niruri. A glabrous annual herb 30-50cm high with grooved stem; slightly winged branchless; leaves simple, alternate and distichous, oblong-elleptical rounded at both ends. Â It is considered to be useful in the treatment of thirst, bronchitis, leprosy, anaemia, urinary discharge, anuria, biliousness, asthma, hiccups. The plant is used to treat syphilitic blennorrhoea. The root is diuretic. It is used to remove bladder stones, and is a remedy for jaundice. An infusion of the tender fresh roots is valuable in the treatment of chronic dysentery

C membranaceus is a monoecious herb up to 2m in height with slender and densely stellate hairy branches. The root bark contains scopoletin and julocrotine, a glutarimide alkaloid. It also contains calcium oxalate crystals. A root extract is taken to treat urinary retention caused by an enlarged prostate. ]. The root and leaf extracts of C. membranaceus are also used as remedies for dia-betes and measles. The essential oils from the stem bark of C. membranaceus are taken as a remedy for a cough, diarrhea, fever, flatulence, and nausea. The antioxidant action of C. membranaceus extract is significant compared with the antioxidant action of gallic acid, the positive control which is a pure compound. . Blood glucose levels were reduced in mice given metformin and extract after 3 hours . These findings demonstrate the poten-tial of C. membranaceus extracts in the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus and diseases in which oxidants or free radicals are implicated. The extract demonstrated significant dose-dependent inhibition properties in the proliferation of BPH-1 cancer cells and changes in the morphology and reduced density of BPH-1 cancer cells
