    Ginger consists of scraped or unscraped rhizomes of Zingiber officinale. An herbaceous perennial with fleshy creeping rhizome and leafy stem, leaves distichous and subsessile on the sheaths.  The root is rich in volatile oils, gingerols and shogaols.
