The authors of the book are Mr. Clifford Asare and Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah. Mr. Clifford Asare is a long serving Technician at the Department of Herbal Medicine KNUST. He has years of experience in herbal medicine practice and has been instrumental in the field training of Herbal Medical Students. Mr Asare has contributed to numerous research work in plant medicine within Ghana and beyond.
Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah, a co-author is a Herbal Medicine Intern (Centre for Plant Medicine Research-Akuapem-Mampong), Researcher, International Writer, Freelance journalist and a columnist on major Ghanaian news portals. As a former outreach coordinator for the Ghana Herbal Medical Students Association, Mr. Debrah has been passionate in promoting Traditional Ghanaian medicine and is a staunch advocator for collaboration between orthodox medical practitioners and traditional healers for patient’s wellbeing. Mr. Debrah is currently the public relation officer for Medical Herbalist Interns and National Service Personnel Associations (MHINSPA).

Momordica charantia consists of the fresh or dried leaf or fruit of Momordica charantia. It is a very vigorous, annual climbing plant producing stems 5 metres or more long that scramble over the ground or climb up into the surrounding vegetation, supporting itself by means of tendrils. The fruit has a higher nutritional value than many members of this family, mainly due to its iron and vitamin C content. Extracts of various morphological parts of P. pinnata obtained by using the traditional method of preparation showed broad-spectrum antibacterial effects (Annan and Houghton). Broadbent (1962) observed that Paullinia-tannin has cardiotonic action. The compound increased diastolic tonus and coronary blood flow in isolated perfused mammalian heart.
