The tree has a long history of traditional medicinal use in Africa, where it also supplies food and a range of commodities. Â A bark or root-decoction is used to treat heart-troubles.

Dosage
Decoction: Boil 30g(two tablespoonful) in 1000ml of water. Simmer until reduced to 600ml and take 2-3 teacups daily.

Cryptolepis consists of the dried roots of Cryptolepis sanguinolenta. The roots have a bitter flavour and are tonic. Cryptolepine has potent antiplasmodial activity, and also has anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, hypotensive, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperglycaemic activities
