The bole can be free of branches for up to 15 metres, and 50 – 90cm in diameter. Cabbage palm is widely used in traditional medicine throughout its distribution area as a strong purgative and diuretic. The bark has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Â A bark decoction is taken or used as vapour bath to treat fever, stomach-ache, leprosy, gonorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea

Dosage
Decoction: Boil 30g (two tablespoonful) in 1000ml of water and allow to simmer to 600ml. Take 2-3 teacupsful daily

J. secunda consist of the fresh or dried leaves of Justicia secunda. It is an evergreen, perennial plant with stems that sometimes become more or less woody. It can grow from 90 – 200cm tall It is an erect grass of simple leaves, whose flowers are contained in terminal panicles.
