Sold By: GMF StoreJ. secunda consist of the fresh or dried leaves of Justicia secunda. It is an evergreen, perennial plant with stems that sometimes become more or less woody. It can grow from 90 – 200cm tall It is an erect grass of simple leaves, whose flowers are contained in terminal panicles.
The folkloric uses of the plant include wound healing, anemia and abdominal pain. The anti-sickling, haematinic, antimicrobial and anti-hypertensive activities of J. secunda have been reported.
The leaves are used in the treatment of anemia, cough, cold, fever, malaria, measles, and whooping cough.The stem and leaves are used in a clarifying infusion for the treatment of amenorrhoea

It consists of the dried roots of Sphenocentrum jollyanum. Sphenocentrum jollyanum is a perennial under growth of dense forest. It grows to an average height of about 1.5 m, with few scanty branches. S. jollyanum leaves are wedge-shaped, about 5–12 cm wide, smooth on both sides, and can grow up to about 20 cm long with a small-arrowed apex.
The root is used as an aphrodisiac tonic for men. The sap from chewing sticks made from the root is believed to relieve stomach-ache and constipation, and to boost appetite and sexual drive. Roselle is an erect, mostly branched, annual to perennial plant growing up to 4.5 metres tall. The stems often become woody, at least at the base, and persist for more than a year. An important multipurpose plant supplying a range of foods, medicines and other products It has been grown as a food crop for around 6,000 years.
The fresh calyx (the outer whorl of the flower) is eate n raw or cooked. It is rich in pectin and citric acid. The ripe calyces are diuretic and antiscorbutic. The succulent calyx, boiled in water, is used as a drink in the treatment of bilious attacks. The flowers contain gossypetin, anthocyanin, and the glycoside hibiscin.
These may have diuretic and choleretic effects, decreasing the viscosity of the blood, reducing blood pressure and stimulating intestinal peristalsis. The plant is a tropical beverage

The urine of 36 healthy subjects, after consumption of the flower juice, showed a decrease of creatinine, uric acid, citrate, tartrate, calcium, sodium, potassium and phosphate but not oxalate (Carvajal-Zarrabal et al., 2005).
