The authors of the book are Mr. Clifford Asare and Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah. Mr. Clifford Asare is a long serving Technician at the Department of Herbal Medicine KNUST. He has years of experience in herbal medicine practice and has been instrumental in the field training of Herbal Medical Students. Mr Asare has contributed to numerous research work in plant medicine within Ghana and beyond.
Mr. Cephas Kwaku Debrah, a co-author is a Herbal Medicine Intern (Centre for Plant Medicine Research-Akuapem-Mampong), Researcher, International Writer, Freelance journalist and a columnist on major Ghanaian news portals. As a former outreach coordinator for the Ghana Herbal Medical Students Association, Mr. Debrah has been passionate in promoting Traditional Ghanaian medicine and is a staunch advocator for collaboration between orthodox medical practitioners and traditional healers for patient’s wellbeing. Mr. Debrah is currently the public relation officer for Medical Herbalist Interns and National Service Personnel Associations (MHINSPA).

Afro Moses capsules contains Penianthus zenkeri and Capparis erythrocarpus both African tropical plant whose roots and leaves are used in traditional medicine for many purposes, especially for erectile dysfunction. Afro Moses capsules extracts contains the following Phytochemicals: Glycosides, Saponins, Tannins, Alkaloids and Flavonoids which are highly antioxidative and induce a slight transcriptional activity of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-alpha. They also increased and decreased endothelial nitric oxide synthase and endothelin-1 mRNA levels in bovine and aortic endothelial cells, respectively. It could be suggested that the arterial relaxation induced by extracts could be mainly linked to their capacities to inhibit nitric oxide oxidation through their antioxidant properties and this leads to gushing of blood into the Cavernosal sinuses in the Penis enhancing sustained erection for satisfactory sexual performance.

Nauclea consists of the dried transversely sliced and chopped roots of Nauclea latifolia. A straggling shrub or small tree, 2-3 m high; leaves elliptic or rounded-ovate, acuminate tip, cuneate, rounded or subcordate base, 10-20 cm long, 6-12 cm broad; pedicel 1-2cm long. Used in the treatment of diabetes. The root is febrifuge and tonic. The bark and roots of the plant contain more than 1% of an opioid that is clinically identical to the analgesic drug ‘tramadol’. It can be extracted in a cost-effective way to provide an economical source of this widely used analgesic. Extracts of the plant have exhibited activity against Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus (which are responsible for gastroenteritis in children)

Grains of paradise consists of the dried mature seeds of Aframomum melegueta. A tufted leafy herbaceous perennial plant up to 2m high; leaves are distichously arranged. Although used mainly as a condiment, the seeds also have a stimulant action on the digestive system, strengthening and warming the stomach. They are used to alleviate indigestion, flatulence and bloating and help to relieve abdominal discomfort due to colic or griping. The seeds can help to reduce or prevent vomiting and to bring relief from nausea. They have also been used as an aphrodisiac. The seed is used to treat head colds, influenza, slight abdominal pains, constipation, menstrual pains and rheumatism. Combined with Zingiber officinale, they are used to treat colds and fever. Crushed in citron juice, they are employed for treating glandular problems. The pulverised seeds are used in an enema for treating constipation pains, and are mixed with mustard oil in an ointment for easing arthritis pains. The seeds are pulverised with the seeds of Piper nigrum and then mixed with coconut oil to make an ointment that is used to treat general swellings and pains. Studies on the sexual behaviour of male rats showed that A. melegueta and P. guineense increased sexual arousal (Kamtchouing et al., 2002).
